The Moon - "Void of Course"

As the moon orbits the Earth it passes through the signs of the zodiac. Every lunar month, it travels through all twelve signs, passing through each sign in more than two, but less than three days. when the Moon gtets near the end of each sign, it goes beyond its last major aspect, or connection with another planet. From the time of the last major aspect until the Moon moves in to the next sign of the zodiac, the Moon is said to be "Void of Course." This is a time when we can really feel unconnected and without direction. It is, therefore, and ideal time for centering ourselves.
The interval when the Moon is void of course (v/c) might last only a few seconds or minutes of time, or it could last for a day or two. The duration depends on the locations of the planets and their interactions.

The period while the Moon is void of course is a time when people can feel very "unconnected" and without direction. it is, therefore, an ideal time to focus on centering or drawing attention Inward. Until the Moon enters the next sign, it is wise to avoid making important decisions. judgment at this time is probably faulty. Decisions tend to be unrealistic and/or subject to unknown factors. New paths are likely to be plagued with false starts, errors, and unanticipated hassles and delays.
During Moon void of course, actions produce unexpected results. Creative efforts go in unexpected directions is really a time to "kick back", to let life flow, and to avoid difficulties.
In presidential campaigns, the candidates Thoma Dewey (who lost), Richard Nixon (in 1960 when he lost to John F. Kennedy), Barry Goldwater (who lost really badly), and poor George McGovern (who did not win) were all nominated while the Moon was void of course. In fact, every candidate from the two major parties who was nominated for the presidency from 1900-1972 while the Moon was void of course was defeated.
In 1972 Richard Nixon was reelected for a second term as President. However, his fateful and doomed reelection occurred while the Moon was void of course. nixon's replacement, Gerald ford, became President by succession, not election, and he was sworn in during a period when the Moon was void of course. Jimmy Carter's second (1980) nomination occurred during Moon void of course. And al Gore's 2000 nomination occurred while the Moon was void of course.
The important guideline for Moon void of course periods is to not be involved in concerns beyond your spiritual center. Moon void of cuorse is a time for subjective, spiritual, non-materialistic concerns. Don't push the river!
Once the Moon enters the next sign it is no longer void of course. If the void of course period was a time off from business, giving attention to relaxation and spiritual growth, then people can more effectively go back to dealing with the affairs of the day-to-day material world.

What are the Aspects? An important part of astrology is understanding how the planets interact. The planets form various angular relationships to each other which are called aspects. Imagine an aspect as the blending of the rays of two planets.
The Sextile, 60' is a favorable aspect. It can allow the influences of the planets to work in harmony. However, the sextile only brings opportunity. These opportunities must be acted upon to be of use. The Square, 90' is traditionally regarded as unfavorable. It represents the struggle of two forces at cross-purposes. The square brings stress and denotes the obstacles which can inspire growth through concentrated effort. The Trine, 120' is the most harmonious aspect. In most cases, it joins planets in congenial signs of the same element. These energies combine with ease. The drawback is the lack of challenge - getting benefits without effort. The Opposition, 180' when planets are exactly opposite each other in the zodiac, causes stress and awareness. This polarity, though tense, does not have to be discordant as these opposites are complementary. The Conjunction, is when two planets are in the same degree of longitude. It gives great strength to the energies of the interacting planets. This aspect can be either harmonious or discordant depending upon the nature of the planets involved.

Mercury Retrograde - Mercury Direct Mercury (Hermes in Greek mythology) is known as the "Messenger of the Gods." Mercury represents the mind - the link between spirit and matter, between soul and personality. Mercury symbolizes the power of communication and interpretation: intelligence, reasoning capacities, and the ability to perceive relationships and gather facts. Mercurial qualities include being adaptable, intellectual, attentive, perceptive, clever, versatile, inconsistent, hypercritical, argumentative, sarcastic, cynical, excitable, impressionable, nervous or prone to worry. Mercury narrates, talks, argues, debates, writes, analyzes, memorizes, studies, travels, sells, reflects, and expresses itself through the hands as well as the tongue.

Mercury rules all communications. It is associated with speaking and writing, educational capacities, and manual skills. A retrograde planet is a planet that (when viewed from the perspective of the earth) appears to have stopped and then temporarily reverses its regular movement through the sky. The planet then goes "retrograde" (backwards). After a certain length of time (depending upon the planet involved), the planet then appears to once again stop and reverse its movement through the sky. The planet then goes "direct" and is back on it's normal cyclic path through the sky. The traditional astrological meaning assigned to the planet Mercury going "retrograde" in the sky: one should prepare for unexpected delays and frustrations in everyday life. This includes everyday routines in commerce, commuting back and forth to work, and in one's communications.
During the (very) approximate 24 day periods when Mercury turns "retrograde" in the sky, in the area of commerce, astrologers generally recommend delaying of the signing contracts and other important life decisions. It is a period of time thought to be better spent in reflection and in the rethinking of things. Generally when you can just expect indecision and changes in plans. Retrograde periods of Mercury require much caution and orderly thinking. It's a good time for research, planning and completion of projects already begun. Confine activities to those that have "re" at the beginning of the word. Therefore, rehash, review, rejuvenate, refine, reflect, repair, recheck, reschedule, realign, rewrite, reformulate!! Take inventory of what has occurred over the previous three months and reconsider and reexamine your experiences. When Mercury is direct in motion again, proceed with confidence in planning and acting on your new activities and endeavors.
